I'm just shooting the breeze here Prax. Isn't a spirit made of "spirit material"? It has to be "something". What defines what is "material"? What defines what is "immaterial"? What is something that is "immaterial" made of? Is "energy" material? Light for example... is light "material"? Our "sound" is sound "material"?

Aquila...I don't buy that hocus pocus stuff that "paranormal specialists" are detecting anything supernatural. I rank them right up there with Miss Cleo. And "allegedly" is the operative word.

True, that's why I used the word allegedly. I don't buy all the "hocus pocus" stuff either. However, I don't dismiss it all out of hand either.

I've watched those shows...why do you have to turn lights off to have a paranormal encounter? Are spirits afraid of lights?

No. Spirits aren't afraid of lighs.
However, I will try to answer your question. Let's first say that a "spirit" is indeed "immaterial". It is also invisible. But it is present. Now, it takes a considerable amount of energy to affect the natural world. For example, it doesn't take much for you and I to exert the necessary amount of energy to pick up a coffee cup or to knock on a wall with our hands. A spirit doesn't have flesh and bone. So for it to affect the physical world it needs to draw up a considerable amount energy through "will". For a spirit to materialize it must exert even more energy. As a spirit seeks to affect the physical it draws up residual energy in the environment. This is why so many report that it gets "colder" when a disembodied spirit is active and trying to affect the natural world. The frequency of artificial light and the heat it produces disrupts this process. This is one reason why those peforming seances often darken the room and provide natural lighting that doesn't produce much heat. The darker and colder the more likely a spirit will find ease in affecting the natural world. This is another reason why spirits tend to inhabit uninhabited houses, locations, or areas of a house. Typically the basement or attic. Dark and cold.
Now, that's what I've come to understand. I could be wrong. Just sharing some thoughts.
Let's not get into a debate. I'm just shooting thoughts about this out there for discussion. I don't claim that you're wrong. I'm just giving some push back because I want to know what some people, such as yourself, might think.
