He give reasons for it, the UPC marks anyone that leaves. That's what gets them labeled as a cult.

Re: Left the UPC...Now Back Again
You can't lump all the churches together. It's a case by case basis. I would say half my church does not "do" standards. They are not treated like second class citizens. My Pastor very much believes in standards, but want's saint to feel like they belong. If you don't do standards you can participate in pretty much any ministry except platform ministries.

Love it.... Not treated as second rate citizens in first statement, then you give a example how they are treated as second class citizens. And the saddest part is you didn't relize what you did.

Re: Left the UPC...Now Back Again
Sorry, I don't think that is treating them like second class citizens. There are many people that are not allowed on the platform for various reasons. The ministry/platform in any church has a set of standards. I personally don't believe most of the standards myself, but see nothing wrong with having standards for the platform.

I'm sure that felt condsecending and annoying, but I'm guessing her heart was in the right place.

We really enjoyed ourselves in worship and after church it was a big deal to the pastors mom it was questioned if we prayed through and if we were coming home.
Needless to say we are still Assemblies

But they will sure let you worship by giving in the offering won't they? Yes... That puts everyone that is not allowed on the platform as a little bit lower ....

I hope you reflect upon your post here and over time come to see that it is EXACTLY treating folks as second class citizens.
The whole point being made was that if you don't adhere to the dress code you are not considered fully "right" with God and not allowed to participate in ministry.

"We did not wear uniforms. The lady workers dressed in the current fashions of the day, ...silks...satins...jewels or whatever they happened to possess. They were very smartly turned out, so that they made an impressive appearance on the streets where a large part of our work was conducted in the early years.
"It was not until long after, when former Holiness preachers had become part of us, that strict plainness of dress began to be taught.
"Although Entire Sanctification was preached at the beginning of the Movement, it was from a Wesleyan viewpoint, and had in it very little of the later Holiness Movement characteristics. Nothing was ever said about apparel, for everyone was so taken up with the Lord that mode of dress seemingly never occurred to any of us."

Not UPC but always try to treat backsliders with kindness.

Just curious.... Are "platform standards" just for the platform? Or do these standards carry over into the people's every-day life?
