Re: How to Save Money

Some people never use leftovers. To me, that is anathema! For example, say you went out to eat somewhere and you had steak or you just stayed home and had steak. Steak is expensive. Don't waste any leftovers. Say you have a few scraps of steak leftover that do not look nice and would not look very appetizing on a plate. What can you do with them?

1. Use for a sandwich.

2. Cut into small pieces and make a beef stew.

3. Make steak burritos.

4. Be like Prax and have a peanut butter and steak sandwich.

5. Keep it till it goes moldy, then throw it away.

(Actually, I agree with you. We love leftovers. Great for lunches, especially.)

LOL! Well that would just take up refrigerator space or, worse yet, cost the restaurant a doggy bag. That would be wasteful.

Re: How to Save Money

I love leftovers... that means one less meal I have to cook!

I have learned to take things left over from one meal, and incorporate into another meal. For example: I make Spanish rice with tacos for one meal... next day, I make taco soup with leftover rice and meat... yum!

If I make chicken fajitas one night, the next meal will be chicken tortilla soup made with leftover chicken...

If I make a chicken roast dinner, leftovers include chicken pot pie, or fried potato patties with leftover potatoes served with the leftover chicken.

And, if all else fails, sometimes I just "clean out my fridge" and throw various vegetables and leftovers into a pot and make soup, adding some Velveeta cheese and Rotel tomatoes to give it some extra spice...

Any other great ideas for leftovers?

Yes, that is what I do! I think it means being creative, which I find just plain fun. My family reads Patrick McManus books and he makes "WHATCHAGOT Stew". Meaning, look in the frig, see whatchagot and make stew with it. LOL! He also uses up mustgoes, which are leftovers that must go. So, sometimes I say we are having mustgoes for supper and everyone here knows what that means. But for me, mustgoes are usually bottom of the barrel, one serving of this and one serving of that...nothing I can make a different meal from.

Re: How to Save Money

I will cook a meal or two, and then my family knows it is either leftovers just reheated, or I am going to find a way to incorporate the leftovers into something remade... and I have created some pretty good stuff out of "leftovers"... definitely we believe in the waste not want not motto!!!!!!

I know a family where the husband will not eat any leftovers. I think there would be marital strain in our household if that were the case!
