Actually, thinking in tongues was the best way that I could explain it. And I still don't know of a better way. However, whether you speak, or you think, if you whisper, you don't even have to think of what you are saying or thinking, in tongues.. The tongues are just there, you can use them, silently or you can speak them out or start thinking about other things. You have control.

It is much easier to pray in tongues than it is in your own language. And no wonder. There are many times that we don't know what we should pray for.

I don't believe that a person can speak in unknown tongues from their own spirit. Even if a person wanted to memorize a “tongue,” what would they memorize? The “unknown tongue” is 'unknown' meaning it is not any earthly language. It is not a foreign language.
