Speaking in tongues is the complete opposite, you don't have control, rather the spirit speaks through you.

(HOW CAN HE BE SILENT? David says he doesn't have control.)
Quote:
:29 Let the prophets speak two or three, and let the other judge.
:30 If any thing be revealed to another that sitteth by, let the first hold his peace.
:31 For ye may all prophesy one by one, that all may learn, and all may be comforted.

And then the 'interpretation” You know, don't you, that when tongues are interpreted, it becomes prophecy? So the prophets have control, but those that speak in tongues, lose control?
I THINK NOT!
The whole chapter is instruction, to the Corinthians, it seems as though they were all speaking in tongues all at the same time. As if they had no control. And that is what the chapter is about, "Let all things be done decently and in order." one at a time, because you do have control.

A person with the gift of divers tongues, can speak in tongues anytime that they desire. Or they can stop, when they desire.
