I know of a church where the whole family who are now adults all live in a compound like setting... Bishop.... Pastor (SIL) &Wife (Daughter)... Sister&Husband(SIL) and SIL of Pastor's Wife all live within 300ft of each others...with Homes all facing the other..
Is this common??
Other locations SIL Slated to become Pastor... or Son taking the reins...
How common is this across the country??

How do these people get this to happen? My son is on his way to Japan. My daughter has her own ministry. So I doubt its common unless we are more liberal than we think but I doubt it.:sshhh

There are Mennonites (but I have not heard of Amish-Mennonites) who are quite liberal. They dress just like everybody else and pretty much their hobby horse is pacifism. Hoover might have some insights for you.

Thanks Emma. I had never heard the term either but that is how he described himself...Amish-Mennonite.

I've heard the term, but associated it with a more conservative group. The Amish-Mennonites that I visited before were very conservative, horse and buggy and all that. I have not heard of Amish-Mennonites who were liberal.

- There is One God. This one God reveals Himself distinctly as Father, Son and Holy Ghost.
- The Son is God himself in a human form or "God manifested in the flesh" (1Tim 3:16)
- Every sinner must repent of their sins.
- That Jesus name baptism is the only biblical mode of water baptism.
- That the Holy Ghost is for today and is received by faith with the initial evidence of speaking in tongues.
- The saint will go on to strive to live a holy life, pleasing to God.

TOOOOO Funny! And sometimes too true. However, since a few preachers have decided not the fellowship the UPC anymore, there are, so far as I have heard, fewer such comments and complaints.

Ah, we didn't say WE would be saying such things about you, or anybody else. And yes, you would be accepted just as you are. So, are you coming this year? Let me know, I will save you a seat.

So RevRandy:
You have seen the responses: While it may seem that family ties exist within the "Conservative Camp", it appears that all "camps" have those same elements within them.
So the serious question: What is making you think/suppose/suspicion that the "conservative camp" is more suceptable to a tight-knit family atmosphere? There is usually a hunch/inclination/presupposition that begins a thread....
Following your thread to it's logical conclusion in a
Straightline

I'm surrounded by Conservatives!!
Just makin' sure life fit elsewheres... as it does here.. seems from the responses it does...
For me personally in my short life of 36 years I think I have more respect for the ones that leave the nest and make their way... not having the safety net less than 20ft away..
But that's just my opinion...
