It's sinful inclinations are inherent, and are not you. In fact, you battle it's desires more than you do Satan. The flesh is truly your most formidable enemy. It's not regenerated and is still fallen. It is subject to infirmity, sickness, disease, and death. It will not be void of sinful impulses until the resurrection, wherein it will be glorified like Christ's own body.
Soul, one's conscious mind. The seat of will, reason, and emotion. It is, the self. From birth it is conditioned to please the cravings of the flesh and ego (assumed identity). In this condition, it is called the carnal mind. But those born again are to use prayer, meditation, and Scripture to recondition, or retrain the mind to think and respond according to the Word and the leading of the Spirit. This is putting on the mind of Christ. The mind of Christ responds to one's inner man, not the flesh. And through the mind a Christ one mortifies and overcomes the sinful nature of the flesh.
Spirit, one's inner man. The seat of spirituality and intuition, core underlying desires and emotions. It is dead, alienated from God, unless one is born again. For the born again, this is the part of man that is regenerated due to the Holy Spirit's abiding presence and power. Once regenerated, it is sinless. It's desires are contrary to the desires of the flesh. When will surrenders to the desires of the flesh, the inner man is troubled. Feelings of guilt, shame, remorse, and anxiety flow from the spirit to the soul to prompt repentance, and provides a desire for sinless holiness.
There is no, outer man.
