NOTE TO THE READER:

Notice, the poster above implies that if you need professional help or medication, you must not believe in the Holy Ghost. He even implies that if you need Bayer to manage pain, your not Christian enough.

That's spiritual abuse.

Of course God doesn't NEED these things. But, He often chooses to work through doctors, counselors, therapies, and medications. I'll agree with the poster as far as saying one should pray about seeking a professional, and any medication, should any be suggested.

I looked to a pastoral counselor who was a Nazarene. He had much respect for my religious convictions and beliefs. Quite often, he would share advice by referencing the Bible as food for thought and contemplation. He never advised medication. He discussed how we are fearfully and wonderfully made, and got deep into how our brains work and what PTSD is. Then he discussed how certain exercises can effect the brain. After this, he introduced me to EMDR therapy. I can't tell you how much this has helped me. I'm not out of the woods yet. But my episodes are fewer, and most of the time they aren't as intense. This past Fourth of July was a particularly rough episode. But this is probably because I buried my father, a Vietnam veteran who was rather abusive and never sought help, this past January. The fireworks, my military past, my childhood abuse, my grief. A perfect storm. Some important unresolved issues came to the surface. And I thank God for good counseling. And for EMDR therapy.

Don't listen to the posters scare tactics. Perhaps Jesus is using me to reassure a reader who is struggling and who needs to allow Jesus to work through a good therapist to bring relief if supernatural healing has yet to manifest.

Here's a video on EMDR therapy. Be encouraged. There is help out there, and they don't always involve drugs or medication. Many therapies are based on the natural functions of your brain. When you understand how it works, you realize that the brain is like a tool, an instrument. Learning how it works and how to use it to reprocess trauma will be a blessing.

I pray that you have peace and be in good health.
