They got saved because a preacher preached the gospel to them. Their eyes were opened and their hearts were convicted.

Heres what I mean using myself as the example. I was a hippie in 1974 browsing through an occult bookstore. My eyes fell upon a book that mentioned the end times. That was a concept I had rarely heard and certainly knew nothing of.
I got curious and took it home. After a few days I started reading the Bible. In my 20 year life at that time I had maybe read the Bible about 30 minutes. Now as I started looking into end time prophecy I got excited about reading it. Like 2-3 hours a night!
As I began praying and seeking God I found the greatest desire to know him and his word. Within 6 weeks I received the Holy Ghost.
I can tell you this happened to thousands of people around that time. I have no doubt it is still happening today. The end time message catches ones attention. He starts seeking God. He either hears the gospel of salvation from someone or maybe like myself begins just seeking for Jesus....and he shows up!
So because you have not met one person with such a testimony does not mean there is no one.
