Predominating formulas are:
1. “In the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost”
2. “In the name of Jesus Christ
3. “In the name of the Lord”
Within these we find scriptural basis for each.
1-
Matthew 28:19
2-
Acts 2:38
3-
Acts 10:48
Are we to argue which of these is the "biblical" formula? Did not Peter say to be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ? He never did say in the name of Jesus ....
We are arguing over the pronouncement that the baptizer says ... yet there is no scripture that says that the baptizer must get it right ... conversely it says that the person who believes and calls on the name of the Lord is saved ... should the baptizee be the one invoking the name?
