Not want them dead...
did Paul want the Romans dead? No.
And niether should you want those who oppose the truth now dead... you should pray for them and desire for them to find the truth, not wish for thier untimely death in some strange brutal fashion...
And, no, I really don't like him either, but the things that have been said in this thread are just plain wrong...

These are only far reaching personal decisions about what others must be thinking and are erroneous to the endth degree.

And a large reason that Ahmedinejad hates us is because he hates all Jews and Christians... By and large it is our faith that causes him to oppose us...
and nothing in our political system is seeking to assassinate this guy. If we wanted him dead, he'd be dead, period... We don't want him dead, thus he isn't... You aren't supporting any part of our political system wishing for his assassination...

umm, the bible says "an eye for an eye"
sure he needs God, he needs salvation, but he's a murderer and deserves punishment.

Wow... you should put a little more study into what you say.
The Bible does recall the phrase "eye for an eye" but it is not recalling it as something God ever said... it is recalling it as a saying from back then and then the scripture goes on to condemn the concept.
Mat 5:38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth:
Mat 5:39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also.
Mat 5:40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have [thy] cloke also.
Mat 5:41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
Mat 5:42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
Mat 5:43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
Mat 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; (Why?)
Mat 5:45 T hat ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
Mat 5:46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
Mat 5:47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more [than others]? do not even the publicans so?
Mat 5:48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

How long would it take for someone considered an enemy to truly do good things for you before they'd not be your enemy anymore?

That would tend to be different for each person dependent upon their particular level of spiritual maturity I would assume as well as how deep the wounds are from the incident(s) that led to their being considering their enemy.
There is really no way of saying.

Is this something God would, in any way, condone today?
Do you feel that the death penalties doled out and supported in the OT have any place in the new and better covenant?

OT edicts? Well, yes read Gen.9:6. I doubt that I am talking about adultery and stoning since this particular passage talks specifically about man taking another mans life. Also, you can take comfort in knowing that this was before the law of Moses. This was not written specifically for the Jews, but for all mankind in its context. The last time I checked, I have yet to hear of a national ruler turning to God after being a murderer.

David? Oh I get it, under the Law he was supposed to be stoned. Thanks for bringing David into this discussion, but I was actually referring to todays terms. So are you comparing Ahmadinijad with David now?

lol, you have to be kidding me.
You stated you had never heard of a national ruler turning to God after being a murderer...
and David fits that description...
Thus you have...
