Maybe the preacher is a good plumber and the pastor is building a new house, etc.

Its sad but actually too funny! The church my husband came out of originally was that way! The pastor was exactly like you say and funniest thing is .... he is a carpenter and hmmmm maybe thats why he did the way he did??? LOL
Seriously he had 5 licensed preachers in his church and 2 who werent yet licensed. He refused to let any of them preach out at all... 2 of them.... My husbands best friend who had been licensed w the upc for 5 yrs and my husband (not licensed) decided to start giving bible studies... well ended up being with a small group... they later became a very large group. Well within 6 mos of starting this bible study... the people decided they enjoyed it and it grew almost larger than the church itself... well... instead of making this work together for the good of the church the pastor began to feel he was in risk of losing his church *which was NOT the case because at that time neither of these men felt called to pastor they were just there to help the work grow!* so he put a total stop to these bible studies!!! Told them NO MORE WHATSOEVER!!!! caused a bit of an outrage I guess you would say.
Then my husband went to him and told him he was really desiring to go to bible school... wait 6 months and lets pray about it and make sure its Gods will.. first time was fine... 6 mos later... pray about it again.... and 6 mos later when Rob knew it was nothing but Gods will... he said pastor I have another pastor who will sign me under him if you wont I am going.... not out of rebellion but it was purely becoming a matter of HE (pastor) didnt want him to go at all and had no good reason for this and this had been the par for others before my hubby....
It finally came to a head and it is a sure sign that all these things will eventually come out in the wash... It got old... one Sat night in prayer we decided we had enough and knew it wasnt Gods will for us to be there anymore... we prayed and called another local pastor and went and attended his service, not knowing that 4 of the other preachers from the same church we had attended would show up there that same morning for the same reason.... It was a shock to the former pastor and now that his church has dwindled down to about 20 people I think he might finally be getting the hint???
In the meantime... within the next week of everyone leaving... one was called to be assistant pastor at a fairly large work elsewhere in Ms..... my husband was called and asked to assist at a church in La... and my husbands best friend is now pastoring a new home mission work in the same area which is thriving and growing by leaps and bounds....
Pastors like that I just dont understand....
