I agree, Phil. And I'm not a big critic of the writer either. I really admire what she's done, just from a business perspective it's amazing.
But now that she's done with the story it seems that she may follow in the steps of so many who allowed success to get the best of them. She will now want to tweak noses and insult anyone who she perceived as having "got in her way" over the years. Now that she's top dog it's payback time.
I think she does her characters a disservice. If you have a character, like Tolkien's Gandalf, who transcends the temporal world you often will want to keep them from having "earthly ties" like marriage and etc. Their "family" is the world and they have greater things on their minds than sex. Such characters are useful to young readers whose raging hormones may seem to dominate their thoughts at all times. The asexual character tells us that there are more important things than whatever makes your heart flutter.
Rowling appear to have robbed us of just such a thing.
