This is an old testament principle. Love your neighbor, hate your enemy. How many times do we read in Psalms of David asking God to destroy his enemies?
But you are right...............eye for an eye may not fit into it as well.

You forgot shooting the one that breaks into your home and tries to rape your wife.
That's not in there?
Oh you mean he didn't address that situation?

I would say it is pretty well covered in LOVE YOUR ENEMIES. If you can't see that, then I could post my fingers to the bones and all I would get would be bony fingers.

All kidding aside, I don't think love your enemies has anything to do with defending yourself or your family.

Oh, boy! I don't even remember what page they're on to help you find them. Oh well. Don't worry about it. I know this has been a fast paced thread. I am pretty much wore out too. It's starting to look like nitey nitey time.
