Jesus is the one that taught (doctrine/teaching) the future leadership in his church being able to make binding decisions.

Do you believe everything that Jesus taught his disciples was only for them and we are not to obey them today? Or do you believe that we can just pick and choose which ones were for just his disciples? How do you distinguish?

I don't read anywhere where Jesus gave this authority only to that generation of leadership.

That kind of thinking leads one to believing stuff like - that was only written to the early church or that culture back then and is NOT for us today.

That to me is scary!

This also goes to the mindset of the Catholic church. They believe the Pope has that ability also. I think He gave to the Apostles that ability and they used it and that is why we have their letters to the church today. I think when others start adding their binding and unbinding of things it cause confusion and that is why there are so many in the fix they are in today. We have to Bible lets try to live by IT and leave the rest out of it. God gave us minds to think for ourselves and His spirit to guide us. Think that is enough.

There are differences....

- RCC's don't have truth
- Matt 18 talks about unity in the same context of binding/loosing; therefore not a dictatorship
- Acts shows that the decisions were not knee-jerk decisions - group discussions were had among ALL the Apostles and Elders - the decisions pleased the Holy Ghost and them

And the NT church has given us a government that contains leaders and rulers. Rulers rule and leaders lead. But you are not forced to follow - you can do whatever you want to. That is your choice, but choices have consequences.

Re: What Would You Say?

Are you saying that God has put you in a position to make a cultural decision for the entire Apostolic church?

Re: What Would You Say?

Incidentally, Paul AND Barnabas were not present in Matt 18 when Jesus taught of church leadership making binding decisions that he said that he would back up.

Now Paul AND Barnabas were the ones to initiate the need for a conference. - in essence to implement Matt 18.

Therefore, Matt 18 was not just for the ones present at the time that Jesus spoke this. It was also for future church leaders that would come such as Paul AND Barnabas.
