In order for dialogue to take place, there has to be a platform for that dialogue to stand on-- there has to be some absolutes, some "givens" or the dialogue will be wasted with two or people talking to each other, but not with each other.
Not all talking is dialogue, not all communication is fruitful. There are some conversations not worth having.
Bingo.

My momma, who I get to see today, (Yippeeee) used to tell me that some words were bad words, they may not be words that will send a soul to hell but not necessarily something that needs to be used in daily conversation. Some words are dirty words and again may not send a soul to hell but not good for daily converstaion. Some words just don't need to be said.
There are words in our Bible that some feel are curse words and should not be used today. I don't need to list them but they are there and you all know what they are.
Now did I hear my mom swear or curse ever? To be honest yes. Once or twice I heard her say a word or two that I had never heard her say before and I have not heard her say it since. Did it dissappoint me? not really, it let me see my mom as a real person. Did she get all apologetic when she saw me and knew that I had heard her? NOT ON YOUR LIFE. She simply said, I have told you before some words are not for daily conversation. The Bible tells us that the man who can control his tongue is like a man who takes a city.
I never used 'curse words' or 'swear words' around my mother.
The things though that she just did not like and would have beat me senseless for using is the name of Jesus or just saying God in conversation. That was an absolute no no. She also would not allow us to say the names of 'other gods' the Bible has said you were no to do it and bless her soul if you did she was going to take you to task for it. Exodus 23:13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other gods, neither let it be heard out of thy mouth.
Just wanted to apologize to anyone I offended with my post. I was stating my opinion, that's all. If you feel it was out of line, please feel free to report me. Perhaps I stepped outside the lines of what is OK on this site. I answered teh question that was asked from my point of view.
I was tempted to respond to one post here regarding the "f" word, but it would mostly be a (historically factual entomology) joke about how it is an amazingly versatile word, but I see this topic is a sore subject for people, and I don't want to cause further offense.
My opinion on something like this is that I may not be sure about something like this, but if I am wrong, I will have to live with it for eternity. So, I try not to say anything that I am not sure whether God approves of or not.

Must be a scary way to live. Walking on eggshells.

Luke 16:15 He said to them, "You are the ones who justify yourselves in the eyes of men, but God knows your hearts. What is highly valued among men is detestable in God's sight.
What do you mean by it ? If slang is a part of your vocabulary that you use daily then I don't think there is a problem. (other than you need to add some maturity to your vocabulary) If you use a slang word in place of a curse word, then the heart behind the word is the same, so there is no difference.

In fact I think that the insinuation of "hateful" Pentecostals is coming mostly from the fertile imaginations of bitter, backslidden ex Apostolics who are constantly trying to find a way to justify their actions. ~ strait shooter
Right, if you are thinking *@$% and say something else then you might as well say the word. However, I know folks who cuss every other word and they aren't sinning because the word has no meaning to them.
I like the following scripture.
Colossians 3:5-8
5Put to death, therefore, whatever belongs to your earthly nature: sexual immorality, impurity, lust, evil desires and greed, which is idolatry. 6Because of these, the wrath of God is coming.[b] 7You used to walk in these ways, in the life you once lived. 8But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips.
