tstew,
I have a very huge issue with Obama's stand on vouchers.
Right now, the Opportunity Scholarships Program provides $7,500 annually to cover tuition, fees and transportation expenses for 1,700 poor children to attend private school.
The parents of these children chose this route because they felt this environment was safer for their children in Washington D.C.
The children participating in the program in the D.C. area is 90% black, 9% Hispanic and 1% white or Asian.
Obama is preparing to end this program
of choice and order the children back into the public school environment. BUT, he gets to choose a safe and healthy environment for HIS children. He gets a choice!
Taxpayers will spend twice as much funding these kids in the public school system, so apparently it is not about saving money!
Michelle Rhee, a Chancellor in one of the struggling public schools in the D.C. area had this to say: “Part of my job is to make sure that all kids get a great education,” she told the New York Times, “and it doesn’t matter whether it’s charter, parochial or public schools.
I don’t think vouchers are going to solve all the ills of public education, but parents who are zoned to schools that are failing kids should have options to do better by their kids.”
I agree with her!!!! If a school is failing our children we, as Americans, should have a choice as to better options for our children.
When he was on the campaign trail and said he was against vouchers - a big red flag went up for me!!! It is not his right to make that choice for us as parents!!! Bush was for vouchers! McCain was for vouchers!
What that means is that eventually he will come after the Homeschoolers - mark it down! Why do I know that? Because he also stated, during his campaign, that he was going to have every teacher certified. They tried to come after the homeschoolers on that when I homeschooled. You don't have to be certified to teach your children. There is so much available to us for any subject we may need a helping hand. He wants everyone to depend on the government!
I didn't like him when he campaigned and I don't like him now!
