In Ferdology the use of the concrete concept of labeling is used as a metaphor to explain the value of the sociological use of "labeling". One should never be discriminated against because of who they are. However, one is certainly responsible for what they do. A committed adulterer isn’t the kind of person a Christian would want to spend quality time with (except to help them learn the error of their ways and lead them to repentance). The “label” in that case is helpful.
However this thread really is about politics. And the concept of labeling is often brought up, as you have, to suggest that it is wrong to label someone as it relates to politics. In fact liberals often say they cannot stand labels. Why? Likely because only 24% of the American population self identify with that term. A devoted liberal has a difficult time getting their message across once they have been “labeled”. I would suggest to you that being able to identify (read: label) a liberal early on would save the rest of the 76% of Americans a great deal of difficulty.
Most folk don’t like potted meat. Most folk get mad when they cut into a nice can of sweet canned peaches only to find their peaches are really potted meat.
You can use the above as another metaphor for Barak Obama….. I nice label stating “vicious uber liberal bent on turning America into a nanny state in the mold set forth by Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorn and Saul Alyenski” would have been quite helpful…..
Alas that label failed however it appears that the can has opened and some folk are beginning to peer in…..
