That's the correct word. When we moved into our new house about 3 years ago, we had owners manuals for everything, and, believe it or not, there was a "Homeowners Guide" for the sink strainers! I kid you not! Six pages in English, plus sections in French and Spanish.

haven't stepped on any that stuck in my foot-when most hairpins fall, they land flat on their sides, thus preventing me getting stuck...

What kind of hairpins land on their rounded ends and stay standing upright, anyway?
