So the Gospel is the death burial and resurrection of Jesus. Thats the Good News? How can death ever be good news? "Well, good news, everybody, Grandma died!" The sad news is that Grandmas death accomplished nothing. The Good News is what the death of Jesus accomplished. His death accomplished what no Law could ever do. It, well, I guess you can say His death killed our death. Well, not our physical death, but, rather, our spiritual death. The Bible says we were dead in our trespasses and sins.
Eph 2:1 And you [hath he quickened], who were dead in trespasses and sins;
1Pe 2:24 Who his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.
We were dead in our sins until Jesus came to die for us. His death enabled us to live again!
Now...THATS Good News!
"For God so loved the world THAT (purpose) He gave His only begotten son THAT (accomplishment) whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlatsing life."
Jesus' death had both a purpose, and an accomplishment!
Thats the message preached by Peter at Pentecost. Not just one verse. Read his entire message to see what the Apostle's Doctrine is really all about.
