Re: Is the YELLING necessary @ a funeral

I think that there is a profound difference between yelling and preaching. I have been in services where the "speaker" yelled the entire time, didn't understand a single thing that was said; it was all show. Some think the louder they are the more impact their words will have on the receiving end. My Uncle Pastored for years and when God called him home, the service was referred to as a "home going" service by my Aunt, no one was to wear black, everyone was to wear white; as these were my uncles wished. There was crying, however, it was depressing as I've seen many funerals. We praised God and there was preaching, but no yelling. The focus was on salvation, living a godly life, and the eternal life that we have through Jesus Christ. Choirs sang and there was a beautiful presence of the Holy Spirit there. As PraiseHymn pointed out culture does play a role in how things are done. I will say this that some funerals/home goings (whichever term you use) can go for too long. Someone said they left one service because it was over 3 hours!!!

One must be conscientious of the family and not just the person that passed on. I will say that I have never attended a funeral where there was not an "invitation" to accept Christ; but this was handled just as it was during any church service. If there was yelling as DAII described I too would walk out. I don't believe that one is obligated to stay.
