It really disturbs me when I see HUGE chairs on platforms, HUGE pictures of the pastor in the church and the church being Bro. so and so's church and it becoming a family business etc. Not saying that DKB, sees it that way, but I do see a disturbing trend in UPC and like churches where the pastor is anything but a servant and is more like a King than anything else. Certainly not all, and I'm not trying to paint with a broad brush, but I've seen far too much it where the people are expected to serve the pastor instead of the other way around,

Great post, and I agree completely. Our pastor sits with his wife on the front row during all parts of the service, except when he is to speak. We just celebrated a surprise 25 year anniversary of their leadership this past Sunday, they are deeply respected and the church gave great honor to their leadership.
They know that they are human and they refuse to be lifted up as being super spiritual or above the body. They are members of a Life Group and are in community with that Group, "...he that would be great, let him be the servant of all..." comes to mind. This is true of pastor, and of every member of the body.
I am not bashing the UPC or any other group, I believe alot is changing for the good, in many groups. I will bash the thrones on stage, no matter whose stage they are on, this disrespects the body as a whole.
