Re: Motorola Droid
We have been a 3 Droid family since mid-February, and have no regrets.
I switched us to Verizon, with their rate plans and device options as the key attractors. We have been completely thrilled with the Moto Droid devices and after two months I have few issues with it.
One deficiency, if you're a business user, is that the email application (not Gmail) is not full-featured. For example, I have my phone linked to our corporate Exchange server. There were some security certificate compilation issues to deal with, but once those were resolved I've had no connectivity problems. But, the email application does not allow a user to create a signature (a legal requirement of some companies), and does not allow you to accept/decline calendar invitations. These seem like pretty important features that the Google app dev team left out of a pretty important app. The 2.1 update that they just pushed two weeks ago didn't do anything to resolve it. Hopefully 3.0 will fix it.
If you're not using your Droid for business, you'll not have a problem with this.

I am using it for business, or rather will be soon as far as our Exchange email goes. I have not really played with it too much yet but need to in the next couple of days. I hear there is an app (or several) for remote controlling another Windows PC. I would really like to do this as it would allow me to make changes to our Servers without having to find a PC or carry my laptop. I realize the screen would be small but when someone needed a password rest or be added to a Group, it would do the trick.
I also learned that while WiFi is nice it is also a horrible drain on the battery and makes the Droid feel less like a smart phone and more like a laptop with better then average battery life. 3G (where available) is actually quite fast and am already using it for internet access on my laptop through the EasyTeather app.

Yeah that's the hard part. I have a Blackberry Pearl that isn't working too well right now, so I might "give in" as well.

Did you get the EasyTeather app from the Market, or from another source. Sounds promising for long delays and layovers at airports where they still charge for Wi-Fi.

I got it from the market. It is free for the first 30 days at which point accessing any secure sites requires that you buy it -which I plan on. For 9.99 is is an incredible deal over paying Verizons 30 bucks a month for THEIR official tethering plan.

Does anyone else here have one? Do you like it? Or is this "Not the droids were looking for?"
I know I know.... "Get the iPhone dude!!!! Mac Rocks! Steve Jobs is GOD! -or should be!", some will say. We DID look at the iPhone, but we need something with a keyboard, something with an open architecture as far as apps go (more important to me then my wife), and last but not least, something that can support Flash. Oh yes, the battery life on the Droid is phenomenal -according to multiple reviews, many users, and the sales rep hawking it.

My wife and I just got droids, we love them.

Re: Motorola Droid
All this Droid talk makes my Dare and I sad. I really want to get a Droid, or the Incredible, but do not want to sign up for a contract again.
I am sad. SAD.

Welcome to the army of the walking dead..... Oops, you got the DROID, not the iPhone. LOL
There is a slight learning curve but it is not that bad and I have found a number of apps that I use at work that have already helped me. Right now I am using a program called EasyTeather Pro on my Droid which allows it to be connected to my laptop, through which I am using Verizon's 3G signal for my net access. Truly unlimited data access (no 5 gig limit).

Re: Motorola Droid
Waiting until Sprint releases its HTC EVO 4G. It will have the Android 2.0 system, offer wifi support for up to 8 different machines; has an HDMI output to connect to a tv that gives 720p streaming video; two cameras - an 8mp rear and 1something mp front facing for video conferencing, chatting or vlogging ... oh yah, and it supports flash.
Android is going to kick iPhone and iPad to the curb or make them into obsolete paperweights.

I am sure the model after THIS one will also be capable to detecting tachyon levels and sub space disturbances.
What is a bit irritating is that TWO WEEKS after we got our Droids they starting pre-selling the HTC Incredible. Two weeks! (And for the exact same price that we paid.) Oh well, I still love the Moto Droid..... And I figure I will upgrade this time next year since it will take that long for 4G to come to the Phoenix valley. Right now I am sitting in my office at our Paradise Valley location and the signal varies greatly since I am surrounded by tall hills/short mountains.
