States need more revenues and need to lean less on the Federal Government especially with Obama Care looming on the horizon.

I believe this is about tax revenue. Pure and simple. They are obfuscating this being about fairness to brick and morter businesses (which also includes ma and pa stores) but the reality is this is about tax revenues.

An army surplus retail store receives 60% of their sales online. They will have to close their doors over all the red tape. So, how is cutting their Revenue only about taxing revenue? It is more than about impact. The insanity reaches beyond tax revenue.

There are a lot of ma and pa stores that are not getting revenue online.

I didn't say cutting THEIR revenue is about tax revenues. I said that this BILL is about tax revenues. It will increase tax revenues to State and Local coffers.

I said the bill was ABOUT tax revenues.

No I do not believe government passed this bill to HURT ma and pa retailers even though that will be the negative consequences of it

It certainly is more than about tax revenue, and even reaches further than the ma and pa.

- The bill creates a situation where there is taxation without representation, putting businesses into jurisdictions that can audit them while keeping those businesses outside representation in that jurisdiction.
- The bill damages consumer privacy by forcing retailers to turn over customer data to state governments.
- The bill hurts healthy tax competition between states.

- The bill creates a new definition of a small business, completely out of step with other definitions. - For example, the Small Business Administration defines a small business in the online sales industry as $30 million in annual revenue. The Internal Revenue Service defines a small business at $20 million in annual revenue. The Marketplace Fairness bill arbitrarily defines a small online business as having $1 million in revenue.

Couldn't agree with you more. Sadly, once the government sees the potential for additional taxation it usually comes sooner or later.

The internet sales tax will be an accounting nightmare.

You are confusing what I am talking about with another issue.

There are two different issues.

What does the bill do

Why did the Senate pass it.

I'm addressing "Why did the Senate pass it" not "What will this bill do"...

The issue I am addressing is MOTIVE not EFFECT while at the same time acknowledging a long time ago the negative effect this BILL will have.
