I think the verse is speaking of a principle to not just do good to folks that do good to you, but to do good to those that do not do good to you. "Overcome evil with good"
I think it is funny that if the dude comes in and says he can't stand our praying anymore and commences to start beating on us, we pretty much all agree that we are not to retaliate. But if he comes in and just starts beating us to rob us, we are ok to defend ourselves and blow him away.
So if its Christian persecution we hold our peace, but if its not, we take out our piece.
LOL!
Again, I believe it's different when we are speaking about people persecuting us and such. The scripture mentions nothing of intruders that come to rob, steal, and kill.
It's one thing to come after my stuff. I can replace that.
It's another to come after my family. That I won't put up with.
The Bible says greater love hath no man than to lay his life down for a friend. It says nothing that my children have to lay down their lives for an enemy.
Blow them away? Only if the situation calls for that. I hope I never have to find out. That's why I live in the small towns....LOL!

Since the scripture DOES NOT mention anything directly on intruders, but DOES mention what to do when an enemy comes, it is safe to say that we should do what the scripture DOES SAY.

I guess it depends on the definition of 'enemy'. I cannot see how someone can be my enemy when they don't even know me. They are just a bad person. He doesn't hate me, doesn't love me, doesn't know me. He's just wanting something I have, that's all. So that's probably why I see it differently.

A basic definition of an enemy would be anyone that is hostile towards another.
You say he doesn't hate you, but he sure would if you shot him.
Of course He is, but do you plan on dying for the sins of the world? Are you the Savior StMatt? No you're not, so climb down off of that cross that you're on and stop acting like you are.
