The scriptures teach neither of the extremes of tortment in flames for trillions of years nor the universal salvation of everyone who ever lived.
The balanced Apostolic teaching is found right here in the well known Bible verse of all time.
16: For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not
perish, but have
everlasting life. John 3:16
How plain and straightforward. Unless we believe in Jesus we will
PERISH. That means "to die". The opposite of that is to gain eternal life or live.
The wicked are cast into Gehenna where their souls
DIE.

The truth of the eternal judgment being the death of the soul is so completely testified by the writers of scripture its amazing we have missed it so completely.
