But regardless, although my political leanings tend to be conservative, I would never put a political opinion between a person and the cross. I'm afraid that too often, the Christian Community is more concerned about "Making Republicans" than "Making Disciples."
Interesting thought.

No, really I do! They keep me from eating peaches when I want to eat green beans.....err.... or vise versa....
What i have often found from those who hate labels is they believe in someting.... and thus have been labeled something.... that the majority doesn't like.
potted meat probably doesn't like labels either.... but I bet if you were to poll cans of pineapples they are all pretty happy with theirs! especially those rings. yummy !
In sociology, the word [labeling] is used more as a metaphor, than a concrete concept. The general function of labels are widely known and recognized as a method of distinction that helps people recognize one product from another. In social terms, labels represent a way of differentiating and identifying people that is considered by many as a form of prejudice and discrimination.

In Ferdology the use of the concrete concept of labeling is used as a metaphor to explain the value of the sociological use of "labeling". One should never be discriminated against because of who they are. However, one is certainly responsible for what they do. A committed adulterer isn’t the kind of person a Christian would want to spend quality time with (except to help them learn the error of their ways and lead them to repentance). The “label” in that case is helpful.
However this thread really is about politics. And the concept of labeling is often brought up, as you have, to suggest that it is wrong to label someone as it relates to politics. In fact liberals often say they cannot stand labels. Why? Likely because only 24% of the American population self identify with that term. A devoted liberal has a difficult time getting their message across once they have been “labeled”. I would suggest to you that being able to identify (read: label) a liberal early on would save the rest of the 76% of Americans a great deal of difficulty.
Most folk don’t like potted meat. Most folk get mad when they cut into a nice can of sweet canned peaches only to find their peaches are really potted meat.
You can use the above as another metaphor for Barak Obama….. I nice label stating “vicious uber liberal bent on turning America into a nanny state in the mold set forth by Bill Ayers, Bernadine Dorn and Saul Alyenski” would have been quite helpful…..
Alas that label failed however it appears that the can has opened and some folk are beginning to peer in…..
Potted meat…. Yuck….

If the label is correct, then we know exactly what we are buying. Sometimes labels are good.

I stated in a post earlier that I knew what you were getting at and said you were dropping insinuations. You responded by saying, "For you to be so quick to assume the negative does however make me wonder about your spirit in this matter."
But here in this post, you say that you wondered about my being a "politically driven, angry, fault finding, person with a double standard".
It seems to me that my original suspicions of you dropping insinuations may have been correct, no?
But regardless, although my political leanings tend to be conservative, I would never put a political opinion between a person and the cross. I'm afraid that too often, the Christian Community is more concerned about "Making Republicans" than "Making Disciples."
We cannot always controll what thoughts enter our mind. We can only controll what we do with them.
When I thought, Hmmmm, this guys comments seem remarkably like others Ive sen so many times, I wonder if he is just another politically driven, double stand etc etc etc." So instead of running with that though and just assuming it was so, I asked questions that allow you to answer and clarify.
I did not just assume the negative and place you in that stereotype, I asked instead, not someone else about you, but you directly.
The difference I see, is that when the thought ran through your mind "This guy is insinuating all this negativity falsely" You then just assumed it was so, instead of digging into it to find out for sure. That's why I made the comment that it makes one wonder about your spirit.
Note, even knowing that, I did not even say "you have a negative or bad spirit" I said it makes me wonder about it.
I try, (I don't always succeed LOL) to think first and find out for sure before assuming and making comments on assumptions. Every time I've seceded in that, I'm very grateful I did so.
I laughed when I read this, not because it's funny, but because I feel your pain.

And whats wrong with that?
Prejudice and discrimination (P&D) are not bad things.
Certain TYPES of P&D are certainly bad, while others are not only perfectly OK, but necessary and part of our everyday lives.
Examples?
Bad, completely unacceptable P&D. (Especially for Christians)
Racial P&D, Religious P&D, gender P&D.
However we as humans could not function without prejudice and discrimination.
Do you buy your loved ones food? Why do you choose them over all the other folks who are hungry in the world? Because you are prejudiced toward their welfare more so than others. You are supposed to be, they are your responsibility.

Do you choose your friends wisely?
How? what makes you choose them over others? You must discriminate.

3. the power of making fine distinctions; discriminating judgment: She chose the colors with great discrimination.
P&D in and of itself is not bad, so how can the use of labels be bad?
The IMPROPER use of labels, and the use of false or bad labels is where the problem occurs.
But to bash using labels is just silly and irresponsible.

"You are a good person"
I just labeled you.
Context is everything and I think it's very obvious the context babasheep was using in her statements about labels, discrimination, and prejudice.
There is hardly a single statement that can't be argued with. I said, "Jesus did it all" concerning our salvation (on another thread) and I was immediately jumped by a person who is a vigorous pentecostal.
So if one desires to pick apart ANY statement, one can. But again, when babasheep says what she does about labels, discrimination, and prejudice, I think it's extremely obvious she wasn't talking about a label on a can of hair spray, or displaying "prejudice" when choosing KFC over McDonald's.
