I’m with you on the Government becoming too involved with our personal lives, but marriage needs to be protected by someone, and I don’t have a problem with the Law of the Land being that someone.

Until that "Law of the Land" targets YOU. Don't you realize that by empowering government to police the private choices others make you're granting the government the ability to one day... police your private choices???
The way I see it, the government's role is as follows:
Protect Life, Liberty, and Property
If "gay marriage" can be shown to directly endanger my life, my liberty, or my property. I'll oppose it. If not, it's a free country. Welcome to America. Have fun... even if you choose to go to Hell. Freedom is holy... even when men use such freedom to do unholy things.
