The question has been asked on this post as to the definition of a Pastor. Biblically? I don't know if this is Biblical, but I thought I might try to shed some light on the duties of a Pastor.
1. Preach better, shake enough hands, hug enough necks & hold enough babies to out do all of the other preachers who were all sent (by God!) to try out for the church.
2. Study, pray and preach!
3. Visit the hospital and nursing homes.
4. Preach funerals.
5. Marry the lovers, dedicate the babies, baptize the unbaptized...(is that a good word?)
6. Pick up snotty kleenex from the sanctuary.
7. Take out the trash.
8. Flush the unflushed commodes in the rest rooms... (Yes, in both!)
9. Be a plumber when the commodes stop up.
10. Turn off all the lights left on by all of those who feel like they should be the Pastor! (Touche!)
11. Change all the filters in the air conditioners.
12. Pick up the Bibles left in the sanctuary.
13. Call and /or write to all of the visitors....(If someone on the team happened to get a card filled out by the visitors.)
14. Pick up trash on the outside.
15. Make sure air conditioners are turn on early enough and turned off afterwards.
Now that, I guess, might cover some of the duties of a Pastor. Biblical? I'll let you decide! But in spite of all the joking around it's one of the greatest honors to be called "Pastor!" I know,
"I are one!"
