Probably so! Power does corrupt. But where you are judging the motives, I am only considering the actual behavior in light of the possible pastoral (scriptural) rationale behind it. This pastor would not have been so rhetorically condemned 40 years ago, when that style was more prevalent. But, (and a big but it is :^)) had he even nowadays been able to demonstrate his authority with Book of Acts-like violence, we would instead be in awe of how Apostolicly powerful he is, (even if a Baptist.)
"Them that sin, rebuke before all, that others also may fear." 1Timothy2:20.
That's only intended for elders? "Rebuke not an elder, but entreat.." 1Tim5:1.

Valid. It's no sin to be sleepy in church--especially if you are so tired from working for God. But if instead, someone has been long regarded by the pastor as a problem "goat," then it's not surprising that pastor has judged such inattention to the preached word as part of the reason he is not "getting it".
(Of course, if as reported, the "goat" left this church, then it's maybe a happy ending for both parties.)
