You are very correct in one sense, but there is more than one sense in this issue.
We have been saved, past tense in one sense. We escaped Egypt, so to speak, by the blood of the lamb.
.
We are BEING SAVED in another sense. God is working on our characters and delivering us from ourselves, more than anything. Israel was freed from Egypt in counterpart to us escaping bondage to sin. But Israel had to be delivered from the wilderness after they were long set free from Egypt. It's like being taken out of Egypt but now Egypt needs to be taken out of us. But they were very much saved from Egypt. In the wilderness, though, they had fleshly interaction problems galore.
We have yet to be saved in yet another sense. The Lord has not come yet, and we shall be changed and sin won't remain in our flesh as it currently is. This means we won't have to overcome anything in ourselves or the world at this future salvation. We have not made it yet, and can lose out and backslide before it's over with, even though we've been genuinely saved from sin in the past.
But each aspect is not focused on what the other is.
