I don't think most people realize how much blind faith we are putting in manufacturers when we just blindly and freely ingest a bunch of stuff that we can't even pronounce. I have been changing most of my eating and drinking habits.

Re: What about physical fitness?

I agree with Keith and since we don't "do" wordly things eating is our past time.

We eat out after church, we fellowship by eating, we celebrate anything by eating.....maybe going bowling or dancing wouldn't be so bad after all!

That's a valid point

Priorities, should be on praying, fasting , winning souls, not going to the gym.

These are the common reasons.
I have always maintained that people that come out of the world and into the church can be set free from the drugs and alcohol. But once they are in the church they find another addiction and it usually ain't an addiction to prayer and Bible reading either. It is either food, and heavy drinks like coffee and whatever. Often times the addiction goes beyond intake and goes to an addiction of bashing people and judging. I think that can be an addiction too. It is all sad

Re: What about physical fitness?

Well it seemed when I first got in church way back in the 80's it was the 'thing' to belong to a gym--yet it seemed really difficult for a woman to belong to one because of the dress issues.

Since I was an ex fitness instructor (as I have mentioned before) and really didn't want to be caught dead in the gym wearing culottes-I stopped going altogether. But I already understood the principles of exercise, and the benefits.

But I come to realize that is not a common place understanding among some church people. Most the people I know in church didn't go to the gym. They wouldn't understand what a good workout would consist of (I am not trying to be critical-so please for give me if I offend anyone). Some don't understand limiting their food portion size or take being 30-40 lbs over weight seriously. It doesn't help at all when most gatherings are around food and fattening foods (which I love myself!)-these are some of the reasons I think church people are physically unfit.

Oh boy JT, now you got me talking and I won't know how to quit.-I am just getting back into the gym thing so this is a topic I am well aquianted with.

Way to go, Since March, I have lost about 25lbs, put on about 15 lbs muscle, my waist went from a 41 to about 37 and still going down. I work out 4-5 days a week. I still eat what I want, but not as much as stay away from sugar and fried foods, except on weekends. My goal is to get my BMI to about 25-27.

I know a lot of overweight Xupcers too Renda.

Not all of them drink, a lot do but not all and some of
the ones that do are just as much guilty as anyone else
who fellowships with food - It's a very common southern culture
across the board

Very wise statement. Again I am not trying to stand on a soap box about this, but it certainly is a problem in our midst. It is a wonder that more of our ministers are dying in the pulpits. But it might be cause they spend more time at the table eating than other things. JMHO

JT, I do not know how many of these type of people I saw come into church- They start out all skinny and in 2-4yrs they gain all kinds of weight!

Almost happened to me!

Good going too. I went from close to 250 down to about 213-215, fluxuating back and forth. Went from 42 waist to 36. I have gained about 20 lbs in muscle. I lift often. Cardio is 3 times a week also. When I lift I lift heavier than most people I know. I want to be built but not built enough to compete in the Mr. Universe body building championships.
