Her short list was a coffee pot that you would use if you were camping, and a manual can opener. Oh, and a grill to cook on.
I thought that was a pretty short list.
What would you think would be needed to survive without electricity?
Lighting is an area I think you would need to address. Candles can get expensive if you need them for a long period of time. I think the oil lamps are a more ecomonical way and gives better light. My husband and I are arguing over the buring of either of these are he believes they smoke up the ceiling, and I am talking little candles, here.
If you have gas then you can still cook, if not then yes you would need a grill with lots of charcoal/wood.
If you are like me and are on a well, no electricity means no water.
Maybe ILG can help us here.

We have several of the wind up flashlights for lighting. We also have a couple of coleman lanterns, a couple of oil lamps, and at least a dozen jar candles. We have a wind up radio that will keep us informed of anything that's going on (if the radio stations have back up generators to broadcast with).
We have a coleman camp stove and a gas grill for cooking. We also have a couple of dutch ovens and other things that can be used for cooking on an open fire.
I lost count of how many two liter bottles I have filled with water. We also have a pool that would become an emergency water source if needed.
You would also need foods that didn't require refrigeration. Things like TVP, dehydrated butter, etc can be purchased

I'll post my list of emergency supplies later. I am needing to get ready to take the kids to youth camp to check in at 9am.
