Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christians being educated?

I want my daughters to be Christians and live for God,but I want them to be educated so they can get a good job,and not have to struggle like me.

Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christians being educated?

Our late father and mother were born in the late 19-teens. They raised 11 children of
which I am the eldest daughter, born in the fall of 1939. (Falla39)
Mom was the only one of 12 siblings to graduate from high school.

All we 11 siblings graduated from high school and most had additional education. Several received top honors in high school, Bible School, and some have college degrees, Master's, Banking, etc.

Isaiah 48:17,
17 Thus saith the LORD, thy Redeemer, the Holy One of Israel; I am the LORD thy God which teacheth thee to profit, which leadeth thee by the way that thou shouldest go.

The past few years I have personally been homeschooled by the LORD. I know that
sounds "different" but it is true. In both the Old and New Testaments, the Word says
that "all thy children shall be taught of the LORD". How would that be! By the Holy Ghost!

Isaiah 54:13.
13 And all thy children shall be taught of the LORD; and great shall be the peace of thy children.

John 6:35,
45 It is written in the prophets, And they shall be all taught of God. Every man therefore that hath heard, and hath learned of the Father, cometh unto me.

2Cor.1:20,
20 For all the promises of God in him are yea, and in him Amen, unto the glory of God by us.

Yes, we believe in being educated! We have been and continue to be educated..... in HIGHER learning!

We must humble ourselves under the MIGHTY HAND of GOD. It is HE who will lift/raise us up in HIS time! We are HIS!

Psalms100:3,
3 Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture.

Train up a child in the way he should go? That doesn't always work, either. Anyone who thinks otherwise, would you let me teach your kids for one week?

Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christians being educated?

I wonder what the statistical correlation is for Christian faith and level of education. There must be studies out there. It seems like the higher the level, the fewer Christians as a percentage.

How do you feel about Christians going to school?

Would you send your kids to a school?

What are the benefits? What are the drawbacks?
Of course they should!!

As they learn in secular knowledge, they should put similar effort into "studying to show themselves approved" as well. Most college-educated nobilities in a day gone by attended both Law and Seminary.

Re: Do you BELIEVE in Christians being educated?

I don't tie education to success, necessarily. Rich Dad Poor Dad is a good example of this. But to be educated in a society that has the opportunity so available would be a travesty not to.

Oh, and there are plenty of Christian PhDs, Doctors, Lawyers, etc...

There is a danger in education. It's not learning something that will try Christianity and find it wanting -- it's become so puffed up in one's self, being prideful, and if their education turns to material success, dealing with the weight of riches. That should be known. A man educated by the secular system must not see himself as any better than another, for this is the law of Christ. Humility reigns. True education leaves the student feeling like they know less, not know it all.

I believe it is speaking primarily to parents when it says to "train
up a child in the way it SHOULD go..." I certainly would not allow
just anyone to "train up my child".

Mine are already trained up, just as I was trained up.

Blessings,

Remember, "Calm submissive". Boundaries, limitations, and THEN affection.

Always make them walk behind you and never let them enter a room first.

They live in the now!

College is the ultimate time of testing -- what was put into them? Were they "trained up as a child" and did they understand their faith. I'm not sure which University you attended, but for a thinker, they have long been graveyards for Christians. At the very least, one may still cling to Christianity, but under the hood the car has a blown up motor.

It's not just about being "leftist" either, which would imply simply politics. But rather it's a worldview that tries to see the world apart from God, historical revisioning, subtlties (and sometimes not so subtle). It's not a bad thing, but it's right for parents to share concern and want to pray over them. This is the wilderness experience for many. Thankfully, enough have gone through the system and have come out as educated Christians, not cynical secularists. The history of the University being a place that was shut down for prayer meetings, is a thing of the past. Today's University touts atheism and deism. Major studies have been done on this, dealing with the demographics of faculty. It's not simply stereotype, it's quite true. My own faith was tested and in crisis under the influence of many professors. Thanks be to God that I made it through with a clear head, and stronger appetite for truth.
