In a nutshell, the pastor was wrong. For details, you can go back and read my older posts on this thread. Yes, it is high time that all churches of all denominations get rid of tyrants, self-promoters, and Neo-Pharisees (TM). It is also high time for churches of all denominations to forsake man-made doctrines and extreme, oppressive standards. However, we must be careful to not resort to anarchy in response to tyranny. Standards, when properly presented and created, are intended to stop the flood waters of sin. Lowering or removing the standards is not sin, but it leaves one vulnerable when the tide rises. Standards are traditional values which insulate our personal values, which in turn insulate our core values from spiritual attack.
