God was not saying that it was a sin for her (Israel) to beautify herself. He said she was doing it in vain, because even after she beaufified herself for her lovers (other nations and their gods), they still rejected her... and Israel would face the wrath, with no-one to help her. That is what that verse, and that chapter, is about. |
Using vain adornments will not sway her lovers, I got that.
