Yeah...of all the "proposal" scenes I have seen the woman's face really changes when she sees the ring, no matter what size it is. It's not just his words but that little symbol of his promise to marry her. I don't think that is merely cultural. I think it's built into women and so is the desire to "pretty" herself up
