I actively fought this kind of thinking until a couple of years ago. The writing was on the walls (read: National debt along with our newly crowned imperial president) but I didn't want to face it. There has actually been a lot of comfort once I gave in to the fact that things are going to get very bad very fast and I feel like I have some control over my own destiny by starting to prepare now.
Look at it like this. Once the economy collapses whether it is over night or takes a week or two (regardless it will happen fast) and you go to an empty grocery store, imagine at that time having access to a time machine and being able to go back a month or two. What would you buy to prepare for your current situation? No realize that is essentially the situation your in now given that it hasn't collapsed
yet.
