You know, it didn't even bother me much when Carrie Prejean gave her opinion on marriage in the Miss USA contest. And I agree that the gay judge (his name escapes me, sorry) set her up for it and overreacted (way over!) to her response. It was uncalled for and very mean-spirited. He should have let it drop. But it's free speech! I can say "he shouldn't have said what he said" while at the same time defending his right to say it. And Carrie's Prejean's right to say what she said.
And Carrie had the right to brag about what she said, too!

You know what the problem with this was? Her personal life didn't line up with her beliefs, which eventually came out. And, I think, that is what is also causing a problem in the Christian world. Being that we have the same stats on marriage and failure, overall, it's going to come back to bite us.

Yep. But that's a whole nuther topic.

Right and probably, partly, why ESPN wanted to apologize. LOL! I was in a discussion on Twitter a couple of weeks ago, went on for hours! Basically, those chiming in had been really hurt by a Christian at some point in their life, which hurts most of all, and now hate "organized religion". It's not religion that hurts you, or God, it's people. "Woe unto the world because of offenses! for it must needs be that offenses come; but woe to that man by whom the offense comes!" Matthew 18:7
Unless, IMO, you are continually in touch with God, I don't know how you can recover from hurt emanating from the church. And when you claim to be Conservative, like the Republican party does, you get the most scrutiny.

You afraid of scrutiny?

LOL! I'm just saying that the more principled you confess to be, the eye glass is going to come out. That is one reason I don't put that dove emblem on my car. I'm afraid I am going to cut someone off in traffic. "You wanna come to my church?"

That was the one thing we always remembered that God would leave us nor forsake us and that man is the author and finisher of hurt.
I guess it was not even the hurt because people hurt people, it was the being singled out in front of the entire congregation and the amount of cult like control that was placed upon our lives.
It was as if we were play things for leadership. We were the bad ones

I've been there. Could tell you some very sad stories. As a new convert, I had a preacher's wife tell me that she wanted to make me a clone of her. I was afraid to pray that I didn't want that - touch not thine anointed and all that jazz. Hurt badly, but....When I come into the presence of the Lord, when I come into the presence of the Lord, chains are broken and my heart is free again... He is my healer.
We are going through a tough time right now and it isn't over doctrinal stuff. Although, honestly, the standards being "not heaven or hell", but preached as such gets more annoying the older I get. So, yes, I do understand your point on being cultish. It's just that I do understand how the country has evolved and why they view certain scriptures the way they do.
The understanding of the Holy Ghost is very important to us. We aren't going to throw that away to attend a Baptist church or stay home.

Yes mam I understand I have had the Holy Ghost move on me and tell me that He was not pleased and that was not of Him and He alone would deal with them in righteous way that I would not understand and they loved Him deeply.
Amen the Holy Ghost is very important in my personal and Church life. I know that I know that the Holy Ghost is real and is for today as it was on the day of Pentecost. I refuse to trade my experience because of man.
We are in a church plant that is very Pentecostal with a strong AG background and the Holy Ghost has been moving in the services and those without the Promise of the Father in the near future will be getting the Promise.
