I guess it was not even the hurt because people hurt people, it was the being singled out in front of the entire congregation and the amount of cult like control that was placed upon our lives.
It was as if we were play things for leadership. We were the bad ones

I've been there. Could tell you some very sad stories. As a new convert, I had a preacher's wife tell me that she wanted to make me a clone of her. I was afraid to pray that I didn't want that - touch not thine anointed and all that jazz. Hurt badly, but....When I come into the presence of the Lord, when I come into the presence of the Lord, chains are broken and my heart is free again...

He is my healer.
We are going through a tough time right now and it isn't over doctrinal stuff. Although, honestly, the standards being "not heaven or hell", but preached as such gets more annoying the older I get.

So, yes, I do understand your point on being cultish. It's just that I do understand how the country has evolved and why they view certain scriptures the way they do.
The understanding of the Holy Ghost is very important to us. We aren't going to throw that away to attend a Baptist church or stay home.
