Jesus spoke to the Pharisee on both occasions before the church was born.

Do we not accept his words of encouragement in one context and do away with the other?

No, we do not ignore them. Rather we interpret them in the context of the covenant they were said, who he was addressing, and the time frame he spoke of.

Jesus told his disciples in Matthew 23....

Quote:
23 Then Jesus said to the crowds and to his disciples: 2 “The teachers of the law and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. 3 So you must be careful to do everything they tell you. But do not do what they do, for they do not practice what they preach.
Post Calvary/Pentecost do we teach New Covenant saints to obey Pharisees? No. Thus the context of who Jesus was addressing and the times involved must be understood so as not to misapply this commandment. Jesus was speaking to Jews under the Law.

What about this commandment of Christ to the leper he healed?.....

Quote:
Then Jesus ordered him, "Don't tell anyone, but go, show yourself to the priest and offer the sacrifices that Moses commanded for your cleansing, as a testimony to them." (Luke 5:14)
Brother Perez, does Moses still command lepers to go show themselves to priests when God heals them? No. There are no levitical priests in existence in our time. Yet this was a command we find in the "New Testament", but it was made under the Law before the New covenant was implemented and applied to Jews. The same must then be said of Jesus, words in Matthew 23:23....

Quote:
23 “Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
He is addressing "teachers of the Law" who were still under the Law. He is not addressing New Covenant saints. If he is, then please explain why Matthew 23:1-3 and Luke 5:14 do not apply to us.

So I'm afraid your point simply is not valid. In John 3 Jesus spoke prophetically of a new birth that would happen only after he had been lifted up as the serpent was lifted up,and after he was glorified and poured out the Holy Ghost. Jesus was also speaking prophetically in John4 and John 7 of this same event yet to come.

The fact that he was speaking to a Pharisee in John 3 is irrelevant because he was speaking of the New Covenant yet to come. In Matthew 23 he was not speaking of things to come but of the Law the Pharisees were still under and had failed to apply properly.
