I was going to ask you if you had children. I assume this post answers that question.
I am going to let you in on a little secret in life. Before I had kids, I knew everything about raising them. I knew how I wanted my pregnancy and labor to go, I knew how I wanted them to act, I knew what my family situation would be, what I would allow, etc.
When they turned about 3, I knew exactly the kind of teenagers they would be, I knew what my rules would be and what we would and would not allow.
Let me just say, that NOTHING turns out exactly as you plan, My labors and deliveries were not what I expected, when they were 2 years old, they didnt look like the kids in the magazines, and now that one is about 15 and the other will be 11 next week, Nothinhg has gone "as planned". In some areas, I am more strict than I expected, and in others I have let the fences down a little. So much changes as they grow, But I digress....
The fact that you have no children makes your argument a bit hollow, because I highly doubt that once you have held 1399"jr" in your arms, you will ever consider him and almalgamation again.
Just a thought
