I would say what you did about Acts 2:38 the other way. I would say that what Peter said cannot negate what Romans 8:14 says. Chew on that a while...

Acts 2:38 was what people were told they had to do, and other scriptures are not going to change that, they may explain various aspects related to salvation, but they do not change the requirements that Peter preached on the day of Pentecost.
