Men and women are both affected visually, but differently. And for men, much more dramatically. What men do with visual images is often different than women too. The thought-life of a man is often purely physical, while a woman's will be situational (dreaming of a setting, a conversation, etc).
All of this is said without qualifications, because of course someone breaks this mold. But we'd get nowhere making those qualifications all day.
PO, do you think the kissing in Anna Green Gables or watching Michael Landon in Little House on the Prairie ever had that "steamy effect?" It's easy to compare it to things today and it seem rather silly... but I wonder 30-50 years ago....
